Frequently Asked Questions

What are Barre Sculpt classes?

Effective, Efficient, Energizing, and Empowering.

Drawing on over 17 years of barre fitness teaching experience, Bev thoughtfully curates low-impact, high-intensity workouts which blend key elements of Pilates, strength training, interval training, yoga, and physical therapy to strengthen and tone the whole body. Experience the individual attention of a personal trainer in a musically-motivated group exercise class.

In just 60 minutes, you will strengthen your core, sculpt and lengthen your muscles, boost your endurance, increase your metabolism, burn fat, improve your flexibility and posture, and help balance your body and mind. All classes combine the strengthening and toning benefits of weightlifting and the lengthening and postural benefits of pilates, interval training and isometric exercise.

Classes are high energy and set to up beat music. The full body is worked out in each class, muscles are fatigued then elongated through active stretching. The heart rate is kept up during class creating a high caloric burn. A key benefit of Barre Sculpt classes is achieving transformative results via a workout that is safe, sustainable and that prioritizes protecting joints and the spine. The carpeted workout studio with padded underlayment is designed with body preservation in mind. The result is a strong, lean, well balanced, and elongated physique.

I have never taken a Barre Sculpt class. Should I do a private lesson first?

It depends on your current fitness level but we have found that most new students do well taking any Barre Sculpt class, which are designed for all fitness levels, from beginner to expert. Beginner and advanced modifications are offered for many exercises and given the small and intimate class sizes, it is like having a personal trainer in a group exercise setting guiding clients to good form. With that said, if you have chronic back pain, painful joints or a severe medical condition, it is recommended that you take a private session first to assess your fitness level and to determine the necessary modifications. If you are pregnant and have your doctor’s permission to exercise, this is also a great way to get more personalized attention and to get familiar with pregnancy modifications.

How do I schedule a private session?

Please contact us at bev@barrebytheseafitness.com to schedule your first private session.  The studio is available for private sessions during non-class hours.

How early do I need to arrive for my first class?

We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your first class to ask any questions and get an orientation to the space. If you show up late for your first class, you will be required to reschedule.

What should I bring to my first class?

We will provide any necessary equipment and a fresh towel.

Please bring the following

  1. Most important, bring a positive attitude and a sense of humor.

  2. Socks that cover the entire foot are required for class. For your convenience, we sell grip socks at the studio. You’ll remove your shoes and put your grip socks on before entering class.

  3. A water bottle to keep you hydrated

  4. No cell phones during class

  5. Wear pants, leggings, or capris that you are comfortable in and a workout tank or t-shirt.

How often should I take Barre Sculpt classes?

For optimal results, we recommend taking 3 to 4 classes per week. The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue at which point you need to allow your body to properly recover and repair.

How soon will I feel the results?

You can see and feel results in just 8 to 10 classes. For optimal results, we recommend taking 3 to 4 classes per week.

Can I take Barre Sculpt while pregnant?

Consult your physician, but if you have been taking Barre Sculpt classes regularly, this workout can be a safe and effective exercise option while pregnant. Everyone’s pregnancy is different, so we recommend consulting with your doctor to ensure they are comfortable with you continuing to take class. Please inform your instructor so they can walk you through any modifications you may need during the different stages of pregnancy. As with any exercise program, if at any point you begin to feel faint, dizzy, or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately and consult a physician.

Why does my body shake?

When your body shakes, it means that your muscles are reaching fatigue, which is what you want. The goal is to have the muscle group being targeted in each section of class to shake every time. After the shake, you will stretch, to elongate the muscles while they are warm and pliable. This leads to long lean muscles.

Can I cross-train with Barre Sculpt?

Yes. The increased flexibility, core strength, and low-impact movements help prevent injury and improve endurance in those who are cross-training for a sport or race.

What if I can’t come to class or want to change class times less than 12 hours in advance? Will I be charged?

Yes, even if it’s your first time. We require 12-hour notice before making any kind of changes to your schedule. The same rules apply even if you are making a change to your class time. If you are an unlimited monthly client, we will charge an additional $25 each time you cancel or reschedule a class without giving the full 12-hour notice. If you are a limited package holder, you will lose your class. Because of the limited number of spaces in each class, we need to be sure that if you have signed up for a spot, you will show up for class.

If you are sick (even the common cold), please do not come to class. Please email bev@barrebytheseafitness.com and we will remove you from class free of charge.

How does the waitlist work?

If you are added to a class from the waitlist, you will receive an email notification no less than 12-hours prior to the scheduled class time. IF you do not receive an email notification, you have not been added to the class. Please remember to “opt-in” for email notifications in your profile if you choose to use the waitlist. If you do not have any unused or unreserved classes in your package, you will not be confirmed into the class and your spot will be given to the next person on the list.
